Issues facing us all at the present include these matters
- The Budget is due soon and a voce expressing our concerns and wishes
- The next Federal elections is pending and a united voice and or strategic approach would be useful to consider and
- The Constitutional Recognition process continues to drift and some feedback to develop a position would be essential.
To ensure the maximum use of the time at the meeting I would invite member’s organisations to submit a one page paper on each of the four identified items above, Congress would then collate the contributions and provide an overview to facilitate the discussions on the item. A schedule is attached.

CONGRESS YARN UP ACT 28 AUGUST 2014
12 August 2014: Presentation:Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples at the United Nations
Les Malezer has been working in New York to assist the President of the UN General Assembly to prepare for the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples. The conference will be held at the time of the opening of the new session of the General Assembly, and will be a high-level plenary meeting involving leaders, Ministers and high officials of governments.
Mr Malezer will give an address during a brief return to Australia to highlight the importance and value of this event. The presentation will reveal the success that Indigenous Peoples of the world have had in fighting for their rights through international strategies and speculate on the impact that the UN can have upon Australia’s laws, policies and practices regarding Indigenous Peoples over the coming years.
Congress would like to thank Gilbert + Tobin for their generosity in providing the venue for this important presentation.
